The Professor Saw Swee Hock Financial Assistance Fund
In 2022, the Singapore LSE Trust launched a bursary fund to provide financial assistance to Singaporean LSE students who have fallen on hard times and have an acute financial need. It is named in memory of the late Professor Saw Swee Hock, a distinguished alumnus, honorary fellow of the LSE, philanthropist and supporter of the Trust.
Caring for Singaporean students who are struggling financially through no fault of their own was a cause close to the Professor’s heart. It was his idea that the Trustees establish a bursary fund, and we are grateful for his family’s approval to lend his name to this fund.
The money for the fund was raised from the Singapore alumni community in 2021 through a campaign on the Ray of Hope fundraising platform and generously supported by the Singapore Tote Board. The Fund is administered by the Singapore LSE Trust, and award decisions are made by a panel of Trustees who are accountable to the Singapore LSE Trust.
Applications for the Saw Swee Hock Financial Assistance Fund
The Fund can grant one-off awards of up to £10,000 per student to cover for unexpected financial hardship.
Applications for the Fund must be made through the LSE Student Union through this link . With the student’s permission, SU will forward their application to the Trust for further assessment and decision.
Applicants for a financial hardship award from the Fund must be:
- Singaporean citizens
- Current LSE students and
- Face unforeseen financial hardship (e.g. medical bills, family care or loss of income)
